The "Stilly"

As the oldest Fly Fishing Only stream in the United States, its waters are steeped in tradition. Anglers from all over the world have traveled to the Northwest to fish the famous Deer Creek native steelhead. I am happy to report - both 1997 and 1998 have brought back viable numbers of this surface rising steelhead. Where this summer steelhead is famous, his big brother, the late winter native steelhead is one of the best kept secrets of the Pacific Northwest. The Stilly North Fork is modest in size by Northwest Stream terms. This mountain river flows in a westerly direction from Darrington downstream some 35 miles to the confluence with the South Fork at the town of Arlington. Its gentle gradient makes the Stilly ideal for fly fishing year round. |
