Skykomish River![]() Hal with a native Skykomish steelhead The two faces of the Skykomish River:Originating in the Cascade mountain range, the north and south forks of the Skykomish River, confluence above the little town of Gold Bar, forming the Skykomish River mainstem. These beautiful mountain tributaries are home for several salmon species, along with the summer steelhead. These summer fish show in the lower river as early as June, but really establish themselves in the upper tributaries in later July through October. Lovely summer/ fall days, floating line presentations for this summer steelhead is the rule. Lovely time, a lovely fish. Late winter through spring finds the largest of the Skykomish River steelhead showing in the mainstem of the Sky. The late winter native steelhead This is farm land country, but don't let its low gradient fool you. This easily waded water, has magnificent pools and majestic steelhead.....some over twenty pounds in weight! These wild steelhead will take the fly well. The colder water temperatures generally require sinktip lines, to catch these large steelhead, consistently. If you were looking for the largest fly caught steelhead of your life, the Skykomish River in March and April, is certainly worth the venture.
