Why
Boca Pilia, Cozumel, or Punta Allen?
Like most anglers, Mike and I wanted a destination where we knew
even our most novice anglers were going to catch bonefish. Sure
we could have gone to Florida for big bones, but there the guide
is throwing 3 pounds of live shrimp in the water, In hopes a bonefish
might show up. Oh, and you better be able to really cast. There
isn't a lot of fish.
We
are not going to make you sit in a flats boat, while your buddy
takes your time up front. We have both specifically designed pontoon
rafts for casting, and inflatable kayaks for our fishing. (We fly
them to Mexico.) Your time should be fishing, not watching. Mike
and Dennis will be your guides.
Boca
Paila
-
A lovely remote region south of Cancun, Mexico. The Caribbean flats
of Boca Paila, are located in the Sian Ka an (Mayan for "where
the sky is born") Biosphere Reserve. No boat is necessary as
your kayak is only a few strokes away from fishing these wind protected
lagoons As you wade and cast on these hard bottom flats, your guide
will point out the "Ghosts of the Yucatan." You will swear
at times you are surrounded by bonefish. Wading in 80 degree water
is the rule. These Caribbean winter waters are better than the photos.
Weather is stunning, the wildlife amazing. Perfect for either single
as well as multiple day flyfishing adventures. One
day package for Boca Paila $350.

Punta
Allen -
Farther
south in the Sian Ka'an, is the Ascension Bay area. What we discovered
was more world class bonefish flats, miles of deserted beaches,
untouched Mayan ruins, secret Mayan canals, barrier reef with sunken
ships, stories of pirate treasure, a different species of bird or
animal around each turn or river or road, and hidden lagoons with
tarpon, snook, and permit. Best of all, we find our family and friends
of Punta Allen.
This
friendly little village of Punta Allen is only 3 hours from Cancun
on the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. It is a cool refuge in the glorious
tropics. It is nestled between the Caribbean and a mangrove lagoon.
The lagoon, where the skiffs are moored, is a stone's throw away
from the world class fishing for permit & Bonefish.
Our
Mayan captain will shuttle our American guides and anglers to the
fishing grounds, where we inflate our high quality Kayaks for the
days fishing. We paddle & wade our way into world class flyfishing
for Bonefish and Permit.
Our
overnight stay will include comfortable lodging, and back out on
the water for day two. A Mayan adventure of a lifetime. Two
Day Overnight package for Punta Allen: $399.

Cozumel
-
Located
opposite Playa del Carmen in the Riviera Maya, Cozumel stands out
as a tourist island. There is an international airport on the island
and the access from the continent is very easy because a ferry service
leaving from Playa del Carmen is offered every hour. The journey
takes a bit more than half an hour. Cozumel island, rich in Mayan
ruins and heritage, is a famous scuba-diving destination because
of the transparency of its waters. Imagine 150 feet visibility!
On
the northern coast, which covers several kilometers, a number of
salt-watered lagoons with mangrove swamps and flats are the home
of countless bonefish.
The
Bonefishing is very excellent year round but will test your skills
as it requires a good command of casting and, above all, precision.
Permit are also usually found, and you may want to try flyfishing
for Dolphin or Sailfish in April, May or June, with big chances
of success.
As
we shuttle to the many lagoons that make up a great part of the
coast, our kayak travel is awesome for the wading & flyfishing
for abundant bonefish. You may also catch small jacks, porgy and
barracuda, apart from bonefish and permit.
Although
Cozumel is a very popular tourist destination, the area of the lagoons
and flats cannot be reached by land. Therefore, bonefish fishing
is not subject to any fishing pressure and catch-and-release behavior
is required. There are few flyfishing guides who are well-qualified,
speak English, and work in a professional manner. As sight fishing
is the rule, your seasoned American guide is there to make your
flyfishing adventure comfortable as well as exciting.

Our
Fishing Vacation Packages:
The
package includes a return transfer from the hotel to the marina,
8 hours of float trip and fishing guide, lunch (sandwiches, refreshments
and mineral water).
Outings start very early in the morning to take advantage of the
profitable tailing during the early hours, starting at 5 or 6 a.m.
to 2 or 3 p.m. The rest of the day is free so that you can relax
or enjoy it with your family.
The
fishing:
We
will have our trick flies, use our specialty lines and rods. Just
come.
So
there you have it. Bonefish friendly waters that even a novice can
catch. A winter wonderland, where you don't even have to think about
the frigid climate of the north. Large numbers of Bonefish come
in from the ocean during this temperate time of the year. Think
Hawaii. It's like that
I guess
your biggest problem will be deciding how to convince yourself you
need to go home.
